Allan Loek

"It just kind of evolved over time and was something I wanted to do," said Allan Loek, in speaking of his decision to include Concordia University Chicago in his estate plans.

As the son of two Concordia alums, Allan's early connection to the University was through his parents, remembering a time on campus when his dad showed him the dorm room he called home while a student. Today, Allan views Concordia through the lens of society, seeing Concordia-Chicago as a place that encompasses the values and ideals he would like to see extend into our greater communities. In light of changes and shifting priorities in our nation's education system, Allan chose to partner with Concordia-Chicago to secure his vision for an increased emphasis on Christian education.

The decision to create The Walter Carl and Leona Emilie Loek Music Scholarship Endowment was a process for Allan, looking both internally and externally for guidance. Influenced by the joy his parents received from perpetuating the sacred music tradition of the Church, Allan chose to honor their legacy along with his own love for music through an endowment. The endowment's primary intent is to provide support and encouragement through scholarship awards for students preparing to serve as church organists.

Allan's planned gift allows him to reach several goals, including honoring his parents, addressing a personal societal concern, and helping others through their journey of dream realization. "When you do something like this, it's like any giving situation—you get more out of it personally than whatever the money is."

Having been emotionally moved by Concordia and its people, Allan's estate plans reflect not only his belief in Concordia's ability to prepare men and women to serve and lead, but also the need to support what we hold as important in this life. "As donors, we have to do what we can to support our values and the values that Concordia stands for."

Years from now the Loek family legacy will be felt on campus and in our communities through the lives and works of the young people shaped at Concordia-Chicago.
